There's lots of things happening with us!
We did in fact move to Las Vegas and have been here for a month.
It's been fun mostly but also kind of overwhelming. It's much bigger than anything we are used to and it's a little scary sometimes. I still haven't really driven here because it's either pedal to the metal or skreetching to a halt. Yeah, it's fun here :)
We have done some fun stuff while we've been here though. We went and walked around the Strip a few weeks ago and let me tell you. That was an experience. You have to keep your eyes about 2 feet higher than you normally would to not see the little cards with women that need more clothes on that are being pushed on you wherever you go. Yeah. It really happens. But there is a lot of cool architecture there. The buildings are so distinct and don't just look like a normal building. I almost felt like we were back in Disneyland because of it. Almost. Except in Disneyland, the ladies keep their chests and bottoms covered....here not so much.
But here are some pictures that I took when we were walking around. Not very many though sorry. Enjoy!
This was in the Bellagio Hotel where we parked.
Here is where the fountains "play" at the Bellagio. Not doing anything now but I did get a video of it. Though it wasn't all that special because it was to My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion and, let's be honest, that song doesn't have much of a "peak" if that makes sense.
I tried to upload the video but it didn't work so I'll have to figure out another way to do it and then i'll post it.
So what else have we been doing here? Well, Monday was President's Day and Jake had the day off. So in the morning we went to Krispy Kreme's for breakfast and while we were there I found out that there is a zoo here! I asked if we could go and after much groveling Jake said we could. :) Ok, so it didn't take much convinsing because we hadn't thought of anyhting else to do but still, I was excited! Jake....not so much.
See?
Actually he was more like really? Why do you need a picture of me driving haha
I on the other hand was very excited about going to the zoo :) I love going!
Can you see this picture? Can you see what the price of gas is here? Can you say gag me? Yeah this is what the gas prices look like around here. It was only around $3 when we moved here a month ago. It makes me sick! :( I saw this on our way to the zoo and had to document how horrendous the gas prices are. It's horrible.
Anyway, so we finally go to the zoo and we paid $9 a person to get it. This is pretty average for the zoos that I've been to before so it didn't bother me. Until we got inside. I took a picture of every attraction that they had there. I think there might have been 20? Total? Definately not worth the $18 that we paid to get in. There were some cool animals but for the most part their animals were pretty lame. Oh well, here are the pictures of all the animals at the Las Vegas "Zoo" so you don't have to go pay their prices, you can just look at my pictures and you won't miss anything!
Ostriches
Assorted birds. Mostly different types of Parrots
This wasn't necessarily an attraction but they had Koi fish so I took a picture.
Ok, so any of you who have seen Madagascar know about the dreaded Fossa. This was 1 of 2 cool exhibits at the zoo. They had a few Fossa. It's hard to see it in this picture so I took a picture of the board that tells about them. Further down there are a few more pictures of them because they had another exhibit with them. It was kind of cool to find out that the Fossa is the largest animal on the Island of Madagascar. And they weren't much bigger than your average size house cat. A little bigger but not a whole lot. Kinda crazy.
There was a peacock walking around and we tried to get it to open it's feathers but it wouldn't. But it let me stand right next to it and I probably could have touched it if I really wanted to. I opted not to but still.
This was a Chinese alligator.
This was pretty much the extent of their reptile house. A columbian red tail boa constrictor. Jake used to have two that were 6 ft long before his mission and he said that this one looked super sick. I don't know if you can tell but down on the coil touching the glass the snake has this big cut looking thing. Jake said that's from feeding it live rats or whatever else and that they fight even after they have been swallowed and they cut up the insides of the snakes. This one had a lot of those cuts. Poor guy.
*Side note: I have held a baby boa constrictor and it wasn't as freaky as I thought it would be. I would actually be ok with getting some if our kids want one some day.*
This is hard to see but in the back there is a huge Crocodile.
Here are more pictures of the Fossa. They weren't very photogenic. The one stood up as soon as we got there so I couldn't get a good picture of either of them.
Here's the mountain lion they have. It was walking around but it laid down before I was able to take a picture.
Here are the giant tortoises that they had. I think they look like E.T. What do you think?
These were the Walabes that they had. It's hard to see but the closest one has a baby in its pouch. I tried to get a better picture but it moved away before I could. I made the picture bigger so hopefully you can see the baby.
And that was the extent of the "zoo" in Vegas. Not that impressive. Some cool animals but not much. It was tiny. Probably an eighth of the size of the Boise zoo and I think the Boise zoo is cheaper to get into! Oh well, it was still fun to go and walk around, I just with it had been more impressive.
After the zoo we decided to go to Sportsman's Warehouse. Jake wanted to look at guns and other things and since we were by it we decided to stop by. It was so fun to walk around and look at stuff that we wanted to get. We are wanting to get a bunch of camping stuff so we were looking around and seeing how much it cost and things like that. Jake also wanted to look at shoes because his school shoes were looking very sad. They were having a sale where the clearance shoes were already marked way down and then if it ended in 92 cents you got to take another 20% off. We got Jake an $80 pair of shoes for $35 :)
And we got me some Teva Sandals that I had been wanting for a long time so that when we go fishing or camping or whatever I can walk around in the water and not lose my flip flops or soak my shoes completely :) Mine cost almost $50 and I got them for $27 :)
Now you might be saying to yourself wow, Kelsey has put on some weight around the mid section and you would be right. I have this lovely bump because......We're having a BABY!!! :D Yay!!
We decided to start trying the weekend of General Conference and since I am apparently super fertile girl, we found out that we were pregnant the week after Thanksgiving. Yeah all I had to do was get off birth control and think the words pregnant and it pretty much happened. haha Anyway, we took a couple of tests
Made a Dr appt for December 19th and got the first pictures of our little bean :)
I was like one or two days shy of 8 weeks in this picture.
Don't ask where the head is, I have no idea haha I was looking at it and I think the top of it is where the head is. If you squint and kind of turn your head to the side you can sorta see the head and then maybe some legs at the bottom? haha I'm not sure. I can't wait to get the next ultrasound pictures! But that's not going to be until April :( haha
Here are some pictures of my growing belly :)
8 1/2 almost 9 weeks
I am now 16 weeks 5 days. Our baby is the size of a Turnip and is around 5 inches long and weighs somewhere around 5 oz. (according to my What to Expect Pregnancy app)
My dr said that around 17 weeks is when most moms start to feel their baby move and I can't wait!
That's been our biggest news lately :) We are so excited to find out what we are having so we can start to plan and I can start to make blankets and other things for it. And so we can stop calling it "it" haha I don't really care what we have, all I care about is that it is healthy and happy.
In other news....
It's official! I have my Associates Degree! :D I am still going to go for a Bachelors but I think I am going to change my major. I have lost the interest to become a teacher and with a baby, going to class everyday is going to be kind of hard. So I have decided to look into BYU-Idaho's Online degree program and get a Bachelors Degree in Marriage and Family Studies. I took a couple of classes a few semesters ago that were for that major and I loved them! And with them being online I can stay home with the baby and still get my degree. And it will certify me for fields that I am more interested in so here's hoping it all works out!
Well I think that's about it. I think I have covered everything that has happened since we got here. I will try to be better about posting and keeping things updated here but I've said that before haha :)
