Yep that's right, no baby this week.
When we went to the appointment yesterday we met with Dr. Seyb. He was very nice, goofy but nice. I liked him. He came in and looked at Tyler's intestines that are dilated and said that there wasn't much change from the last time they saw them. He asked us what our thoughts were on delivering and the whole situation and we said that we would do whatever he thought was best. We mentioned that we were ready to have him and get him fixed and on the road to recovery. He said he needed to talk to the surgeon and that he would make a "game plan". So he went out and called Dr Biller the surgeon who will be operating on Tyler and after what seemed like forever, he came back in. He had a forced smile and said "This is me with a smile on my face". After laughing a little bit he said that he had talked to Dr. Biller and she wanted to wait another week before delivering. Dr. Seyb said that he didn't know that it would be better or worse to wait and so he just decided to go with what she said because ultimately, she is the one who has to actually fix the situation. We agreed with him and so we won't be having Tyler until next week.
But the good news is it won't be another appointment where they do an ultrasound and amnio and then decide if they should deliver or not. I have a scheduled C-Section set for 12:00 on Thursday the 27th. Because he is still breech we have it scheduled as a c-section but before we do anything they said they would do an ultrasound to see if he had turned and if so it would change to an induction. I'm hoping he cooperates and turns but I'm not holding my breath. Anyway, that is the plan and so last night Jake and I came back to Rexburg so we could do another week of classes and then Thursday morning we will get up early and drive over to Boise. We both feel very good about the delay and feel that it will be better for Tyler in the long run because the best place for him to be is where he is right now.
They did a full measurement and estimated weight at the ultrasound and guess what! He is measuring ahead of schedule! I was 33 weeks and 6 days and he measured 34 weeks and 2 days!! That is awesome, especially for a Gastroschisis baby because they are usually on the small side as opposed to the big side. Do you want to know how big his head is measuring? 36 WEEKS! Holy huge head! I am kind of glad that I don't have to push out a full term baby with a huge head! It seems to be the Smith family curse that all the Smith babies have huge heads when they are born. It comes from my Mother-in-Law's side, the Tyler side, so I guess his name fits doesn't it? :) I am going to guess that if he were able to stay in until he was full term we would have a close to 9 pound baby on our hands! Right now he is measuring exactly 5 pounds which is what I was hoping for. We have a friend who have their baby the day after their due date and she was only 5 pounds 1 ounce so I made that my goal for Tyler. If he could be as bug as theirs was at full term than everything would be ok. I wonder how big he will be next week when he actually gets here :) Hopefully he will have porked up a little bit more so the NICU stay doesn't have to be as long.
Well that's the excitement going on with us! Until next time
I'm so glad he gets to cook 1 more week! I can't wait to see pictures of him! :)
